Declawing/Neuter

Hello all, I have a two fold question. Many of the articles I read suggest keeping your cat indoors to lead a healthy long life. Many of these same articles suggest not to declaw your cat as they use this for defense. this seems quite contradictory in that if we intend to keep our cat indoors for safety and health reasons, we would like to have him declawed as to prevent damage to the home and more importantly our young child.

any thoughts or insight here? Can and will you declaw him at the same time we get him neutered?
